    Commitment to Community

Five decades ago, the very first meeting of the Mesquite Service League was held. Named the Junior Women's Study Club, the organization consisted of 25 women who gathered for social purposes. Soon, they realized that there was a much greater reason for coming together: To support and improve their community.

That first year, the group established the precedent for the Mesquite Service League's legacy of service by baking and delivering food to needy families during the holiday season and raising money to purchase new uniforms for the local high school band.

Today, the Mesquite Service League's community service extends beyond anything the club's founding members could have envisioned. Through an annual charity gala and other fundraising activities, the League awards more than $25,000 in grants each year for special projects and charities in the Mesquite community. These gifts include supplies for schools, public safety education tools for the police and fire departments, vans for youth and senior citizen transportation, a permanent sculpture for the school district and much more.

The funds raised by the League in Mesquite stay within the community. This is the commitment of the Mesquite Service League and the legacy of service that the League's volunteers strive to uphold.
